Canonical Ltd

Canonical is the company that provides primary development and support services for Ubuntu, the most widely used server and desktop Linux distribution worldwide.

My Role

I worked first in the Desktop Experience group and then in the Product Strategy group. I worked primarily on Compiz and Unity.

Outcomes

My team and I successfuly delivered the first iteration of Unity running on top of Compiz for Ubuntu 11.04. We delivered three additional refinement releases in Ubuntu versions 11.10, 12.04 and 12.10. Part of the work I was involved with included tightly integrating the shell with the window manager, creating a 1000-test strong automated testing framework and working with the design-team to implement new features. We also worked with hardware vendors to enable the desktop experience on embedded platforms.

Endless Mobile Inc

Nov 2013 - Feb 2014, May 2016 - June 2016, with part time contract work in between

The mission of Endless Mobile is to bring computing to the next billion.

My Role

I worked in a variety of areas, from working on the internals of a JavaScript engine and various core libraries to prototyping user intefaces.

Outcomes

I landed the coverage mode for GJS, created a working prototype of certain user interface animations and integrated the Jasmine testing framework with internal applications.

Jurimetrics Pty Ltd

January 2016 - Present

Jurimetrics provides professional services with bettter information upon which to make better decisions.

My Role

I am a Technical Co-founder and a Director of Jurimetrics.

Outcomes

I developed and deployed our prototype product, liase with our other development staff, developed our landing page, and generally assist in conducting the internal and external affairs of the business.

The Humanitarian Group

Nov 2015 - Current

The Humanitarian Group is a Community Legal Centre primarily specialising in migration law.

My Role

I am a Saturday Clinic Volunteer.

Outcomes

I assist non-english speaking clients in preparing statements and immigration paperwork. I have trained new volunteers to perform the same role.

CoderDojo

Nov 2013 - Current

CoderDojo’s aim is to create a set of communities for young people to be inspired to learn to code and create awesome projects.

My Role

I held the role of “Champion” at ECU Mt Lawley.

Outcomes

I marshalled our volunteers and saw the Mt Lawley Dojo grow to 45 young people term with 15 volunteers.

UN Youth Australia

UN Youth Australia’s mission to bring an awareness of international issues to young people across Australia.

My Role

I was the Western Australian Media & Communications officer and an ordinary volunteer.

Outcomes

I produced media on our events, assisted with a nationwide brand redesign and designed materials for external consumption.

I generally conducted research on copyright licensing, use of trade marks and misleading and deceptive conduct. I also helped to prepare defence submissions in a Supreme Court action.
